We have collaborated for the first time with a quality UK houseboat builder based in Northern Ireland with a talented in-house architect who has incorporated our ideas to create the Henley Houseboat. Henley-on-Thames has a long history of houseboats dating from Victorian and Edwardian times when wealthy city dwellers rented out houseboats to enjoy the numerous regatta events on the river. The boats would be towed from one location to the next with staff living on accompanying barges, musicians on punts and guests arriving by skiff. As land for building becomes more scarce and more expensive it seems like a natural progression to emulate the Danes, the Dutch and many other nations with plenty of waterways to enjoy, by building houseboat communities where compact living is an advantage and a feeling of freedom is inherent in the project.
On board the Henley Houseboat you can expect to find a state of the art air source pump offering low energy heating and cooling, a generous forward deck with canopy which adds an extra room when the weather is half decent and could be covered in with canvas dodgers to enable use year round, a neat shower room with instant hot water and a galley kitchen with fridge, oven, hob and butler's sink. In addition to the double sleeping cabin aft you have the choice of a walk-in wardrobe with desk for home-working or an additional sleeping space. There is a large utility area with shelving to keep the main spaces tidy and uncluttered.
For the external cladding there is a choice of colours and we hope to offer solar panels on the roof shortly. On this model the vaulted roof gives a feeling of space and height throughout the boat while on the larger two bedroom models there is the choice of a flat roof with a balcony offering outside space for dining, resting and gardening.
We can offer a fully furnished package complete with window blinds throughout and fly screens in the bedroom.
If you live by a stretch of water and need an extra bedroom or a place to eat and entertain on the water there is nothing more relaxing than having a houseboat to retreat to and watch lake or river life drift by.
If you have a lake or holiday rental business please talk to us about the options as these houseboats are highly sought after for short term breaks and can be grouped together with pontoons separating the units.
Viewing is by appointment in Henley-on-Thames for the one bedroom Henley Houseboat and in Chichester or Chertsey for the larger models.
