The fabulous Bahama range was built in the early 2000s by an experienced and enthusiastic boat builder on the Ile de Re off the west coast of France near La Rochelle. We and many others loved the design of the 20 and 23 influenced by the American sea skiffs of the nineteen fifties. Unfortunately the 2008 banking crisis put paid to the Bahama boatbuilding business but not before Bruno had built about 40 of the Bahama 20 model. This is the ‘taxi’ layout with bench seating forward for six with two facing benches with storage beneath. There is additional storage in the large forward locker which also houses the fuel tank. The skipper sits aft of the binnacle with the remote outboard behind them. This is a fun layout and allows the positioning of a table between the forward seats for picnics etc. There is also plenty of room to move around on board. Smart striped cushions and a solid oiled wooden floor make the interior smart and cosy.
Lady Gertrude was imported into the UK and has had one owner here for the past ten years. He has recently had the boat revarnished and repainted and there is a set of new striped Sunbrella cushions. The Evinrude motor is a 25 hp which takes the boat easily onto the plane if required.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a stylish GRP hull in mock clinker with varnished mahogany windscreen surround, bimini in Dune Sunbrella fabric and matching full length cover. With a low maintenance GRP hull and varnished windscreen the Bahama has something of the nineteen thirties Chris Craft sea skiff. Lady Gertrude was repainted and varnished in winter 2020/21. However she would be equally at home on coastal waters and easy to transport on her braked trailer.
